Many of my friends who have property investments were on the verge of losing everything as well until I showed them my system providing them with the money they needed to keep their property investments afloat.
More about that later. Back to my story. My two year contract with British Telecom (where I made the £100,000 a year) came to an end in November 2002 and it was time to think about what to do with the £150,000 I had managed to save.

A GREAT IDEA
I had always wanted to start my own business and have always loved raising money for clubs and charities, so I came up with the idea of starting an online business directory website. Companies would pay to advertise on the website, but what is more important each club or charity in the UK would also have a FREE web page on the website.
In the case of football clubs, each football club's web page would enable the club to manage their match fixtures, training times, put up the club managers contact details, also put up club photos. Each football club would also be allowed to sell advertising on their club web page to local businesses. The businesses advertising on the club web page would also be listed in the online business directory. The local businesses would pay an annual fee of £30 to be advertised on the footbal clubs web page and listed in the online business directory. The £30 would then be split between the football club's and my company whereby £6 of the money would be paid to the my company and the remaining £24 would be paid to the football club as a sponsorship.
MY BUSINESS PLAN WINS RUNNER UP OF THE YEAR
After presenting the idea to several Football Associations throughout the country, it was clear that many junior football clubs were extremely interested in having a FREE web page on the online business directory website as well as the opportunity to raise funds for their club.
I was so excited. There I was, driving up to Nottingham to do a presentation to 50 local football clubs about how I was going to help them raise money. Of course they loved the idea and couldn't wait for the website to be ready so they could start bringing in sponsorship money.
The next thing to do was to prepare a business plan. So, off to my local business centre where I was invited to submit a business plan to a local business plan competition. The final product of my efforts was a 140 page business plan, which I presented to the Cambridge Science Park and won “Runner Up Business Plan of the Year”.
Now, I really thought I had cracked it! This was going to be the project that fulfilled all my dreams of “giving back” to society and of launching my own business at the same time.
“Find It At” is Launched
The name of my company was called “Find It At”. I can't quite remember how I came up with the name. Anyway, I was far too excited to worry about what name to give the company. Over the next week or so, I contacted a few friends from British Telecom, arranged a few telephone conference calls with their contacts in India and then, the following week, found myself on a plane to India. I spent a month In Puna, about an hour south of Bombay and opened an office, recruited a team of 4 web developers and go the website development underway.
100th Year Celebration
The most prestigious project that I was involved in was to raise money for the 100th year anniversary of Harley Davidson.
Yes, there was a real Harley Davidson. His grandfather came from Littleport, a village not too far from Cambridge. My company was asked to do some of the planning. The event was a wonderful success complete with a re-enactment of the American War for Independence and a full Calvary charge. It was a great three day event for the kids and families from all around the area. It was also nice to know my efforts went to helping secure the full size cast iron Harley Davidson replica that stands in the village to this day.

ALL GOOD THINGS MUST END - “Find It At” IS CLOSED DOWN
Unfortunately, two years after launching the company and spending £150,000 of my own hard earned cash, I had no alternative but to close the company down.
There was a whisper of some possible funding from the “East of England Development Agency” but that disappeared. Can you imagine how hard it was for me to give up on a project I had committed two years of time, money and effort to? I felt as though my world collapsed around me and there was no way back. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved the whole experience and there were plenty of positive things that happened, but I felt even more sorry for all the football clubs that no longer had a web page or a source of funds to sponsor them.

If you asked me if I would have done things differently, the answer would have to be no, because when the managing director of St. John's Innovation Center - Mr Walter Herriot ODE awards you “Runner Up Business of the Year”, you have to believe what you are doing is right.
It is just unfortunate that things don't always work the way that you expect them to, but that does not mean you have failed. It simply means that it is time to move on and create the next chapter of your life.
THE KEY TO MY SUCCESS
In life, I have found the key to success, is to keep positive no matter what hardship you are going through. It is essential to maintain a positive outlook on life.
Try not to let your experiences change you. Learn from them, yes. But, do not allow them to make you a bitter or angry person.
The easiest thing in life is to blame others because things did not work out the way you wanted them to, but in all honesty there comes a time when you have to accept that it is also up to you how you handle situations, the thoughts going through your mind and the way those thoughts influence your decisions. These are what determines whether you will be come a true success or not.
One of the major influences that changed my life was a book called “The Secret” and the associated handbook called “The Key to Living the Law of Attraction” by Jack Canfield and D.D. Watkins. (See the end for suggestions of other books that have helped me and I believe will help you to turn your life around.)
If you are the kind of person who believes that you were put on earth to help others, then I strongly urge you to get one or all of these books and work through them. The time tested principles are very simple, but highly effective at helping you get what you want in your life.
If I had not found this book, then the story may have ended entirely differently for me and chances are I would not have the luxury home that I do on the Caribbean today.
I have found that the key to success, no matter what situations I am faced with is to not let them change me as a person. If I keep true to myself, always put others first and focus on helping as many people as I can, I can have a very successful life and you can too.
If you find something in our life and believe that it is good, then don't let anyone stand in your way.
I strongly suggest you focus on what matters to you, because if you don't you will never find true happiness and therefore you will struggle to fulfill your potential, which means you significantly reduce your chance for happiness.
NOTHING VENTURED NOTHING GAINED
Back to my story of how I made a success of my life from using a 15 minute online system that you can do too. FIFTEEN MINUTES! That's all it takes. Fifteen minutes every Monday morning.
After closing “Find It At”, it wasn't long before I was back working the long hard hours as an Oracle Computer Programmer, but I never let this stop me from seeking out ways to give me the life I longed for.
A CONVERTED PUB
During the time I had been contracting at British Telecom, I had managed to build a little property portfolio. I remember how excited I was when I bought “The White Horse” pub from the auction. I managed to get it for £140,000. This included 90 feet of river frontage and had 4 lounges, 3 bathrooms, 3 kitchens and 12 bedrooms.
The pub is in a little town called March not too far from Cambridge. I converted the pub into two semi-detached houses. As it is a 17th century thatch building, it was such a
beautiful project. The place is behind me in the picture. The best thing about the pub was the front garden, which is on the River Nene. It is ideal for boats. Unfortunately, the first boat I bought was actually set on fire by some youths in the town. They cut the rope and sent the boat through the town. The next day my boat was on the front page of the local newspaper. Not the sort of publicity one wants, but again it is just one of those lessons in life you learn to accept and move on.
ACCEPT, FORGIVE AND MOVE FORWARD
The three years from 2005 through 2008 have not been particularly easy. But, I believe that if you persevere in the hopes that things will get better, then one day they will. Unfortunately, just when I thought things were starting to get better, they suddenly just got a whole lot worse. The credit crunch delivered a massive blow to the property market and my properties started to lose money every month. The credit card debt ran thousands of pounds every month.
One of my properties was converted into a drug factory by the not-so-nice tenants, who as it happens, owned their own hair salon in town. When they rented the house, they provided good working references and even copies of their passports. However, it turned out that they were working for the Mafia manufacturing and dealing drugs. The Mafia pays them to rent properties so they can convert them into drug factories. The police said that, apparently, there are hundreds of these cases happening all over the UK. So, if you are a landlord, please be careful.
I won't show you the horrendous pictures, because believe me, they are like a scene out of some scary movie. But, if you want, I will send you a copy. Just send me an email. Needless to say, every ceiling in the house needed replacing. Every internal door needed replacing. The electricity needed rewiring and reconnecting to the main transformer. The cost was well over £5,000 and that was with me doing much of the work myself.
The least said about that experience the better, because although I am a happy, positive and forgiving person, what those tenants did to my once family home was absolutely terrible and almost unforgivable. You can imagine, here was a family home that I have owned and lived in for many years when I decided to rent it out to what appeared to be a lovely family. I was wrong, so wrong as they proceeded to destroy the house within three months of moving in.
HOW DID I KEEP GOING?
I must confess, without the help of great authors like, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Dr. Stephen Covey and Jack Canfield and their incredibly inspiring and uplifting messages, I would not be living the life I live today. I have so much gratitude toward these wonderful gentlemen for it is absolutely true that I owe my success today to them.
